So I stopped by CVS earlier this week and thought I got a great deal. I did… but I made a mistake (with the help of the sweet cashier). Here’s what I bought:
Merchandise Value: $19.47
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $.91 plus tax
Savings: $18.56 (95%)
What I Bought:
2 Crest Pro-Health – $5.98
1 Infusium Leave-In Treatment – $5.99
2 Hershey’s Kisses – $5.00
1 Rolo – $2.50
Coupons Used:
$4 ECBs when you spend $20 coupon from the CVS home mailer catalog
$2/1 Infusium 23 Hair Product All You Dec 2010
$1/1 Crest Toothpaste or Liquid Gel , 4 oz+ 10/31/2010 P&G Insert
$0.75/1 Crest Toothpaste 11/28/2010 P&G Insert
$1/2 Hershey’s Kisses Chocolate
B2G1 Hershey’s Candy 12/5/2010 SS Insert
$10.31 ECBs from previous weeks
ECBs Earned:
$4.00 Crest ($2.00 each)
$2.00 Infusium
$4.00 from the home mailer coupon
Final Price: $.91 plus tax
Do you see the problem? I didn’t plan to use the $4 ECB coupon on this trip. I just happened to see it in my wallet when I went to pay. The cashier had given me my pre-coupon total, and it was over $20. The problem was…. neither of us realized that the $20+ total included the tax! So when the $4 ECBs didn’t print, the cashier printed them manually. I didn’t even realize what had happened until I got home.
So the moral dilemma…. What do you do when you have ECBs that you really shouldn’t have gotten? I’m thinking about just buying an extra candy bar or some other $.53 item on another trip. What would you do?

I think that is a good solution and something I would probably do. You didn’t do it intentionally and buying the small amount you needed to go over next time will be the same for the store. I would like to invite you to link up your CVS shopping trips each week at Simply CVS.
