We’re in this awkward in-between stage when it comes to game nights. Emma’s old enough that she’s kind of outgrown some of the games we played when she was younger. Candy Land and Chutes & Ladders seem too young for her now. But many of the more grown-up games are still a bit too old for her.We wanted to plan a family fun night where we could try a new game or two and just enjoy each other’s company.
We headed out to Walmart to check out their game selection. You can see our shopping trip here.
I decided to go with finger foods for our family fun night. That would leave our hands free for playing games. We baked some Tyson Chicken Nuggets (in dinosaur shapes! There was much roaring!) and Ore-Ida Golden Crinkles Fries. I was thrilled to find out that the package of Tyson Chicken Nuggets we bought was broken into two separate packages inside. I knew we wouldn’t eat them all in one night, and this will keep the other half fresh for another time.
I also put out other dippable foods like baby carrots, crackers, and cracker sticks and came up with three great dipping sauces. I used my Homemade Creamy Ranch Dip for the crackers and carrots, and I made my Homemade Barbecue Sauce (recipe below) and some homemade honey mustard (recipe below) for the nuggets. Of course we used Heinz Organic Ketchup for the fries. What are fries without ketchup?!?
We had one little lady who was really excited about finger foods AND a night of family fun. She gave the meal two thumbs up. I think she’s a dipper at heart. 🙂
We decided to play Scrabble Slam after dinner. I wasn’t sure how she would do with it since we haven’t played may word games. But she’s a word girl… just like her mama. She was a pro! We slowed the game down just a bit for her so, and we’ll be able to speed it up a little bit at a time. Daddy actually won the first game, but she and I each only had one card left.
We also entered our UPC codes from the Tyson Chicken Nuggets, Ore-Ida Fries, and Heinz Ketchup on the DipToPlay.com site. When we did, we were able to unlock games and play them online. We also entered the DipToPlay sweepstakes. You can join in the fun too. Just pick up Tyson Chicken Nuggets, Ore-Ida Fries, and Heinz Ketchup, head over to the DipToPlay website, and enter your UPC codes. You can enter the sweepstakes there and unlock free online games to play.
Homemade Honey Mustard
Ingredients:
1/2 cup mayonaise
2 Tbl. yellow mustard
2 Tbl. honey
1/2 Tbl. lemon juice
Combine all ingredients with a whisk or fork. Refrigerate 30 minutes before serving.
If your honey mustard is too thin, you can add a little more mayo to thicken it up. This would also make a great salad dressing, or you could drizzle it over grilled or baked chicken too. Yum!
