I mentioned in this week’s Kroger deals post that there was a Crayola catalina deal going on right now. I stopped at lunchtime today just to give it a try. I started out using one of the $5 catalinas I got from doing the Kraft cheese deal on Sunday. Here’s what I got:
Transaction #1:
9 Crayons – $.25 each ($2.25)
2 Blueberries – $1.50 each ($3.00)
Used $5.00 catalina
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $.25 plus tax
Catalina Earned: $4.00
**Insert surprised cashier asking me how I did that here.**
Transaction #2:
9 Crayons – $.25 each ($2.25)
2 Bath Tissue – $.88 each ($1.76)
Used $4.00 catalina from Transaction #1
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $.01 plus tax
Catalina Earned: $4.00
Yahoo! I only gave up $1 in catalinas and pennies of my money to get 2 packs of blueberries and bath tissue!
What in the world am I going to do with 18 boxes of crayons? Great question! My daughter needs one box for school. I’m going to contact her school to see if they can use some of them. A few will go into our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. The rest will go to a local Stuff the Bus charity event. They’ll all be put to good use!
Your Turn: Do you buy things you don’t need to save on the things that you do need?

Yes! All the time! I regularly buy things that I don’t need to save on things that I do need. Last week at Rite Aid, I managed to get two packs of Pull-Ups for free (actually, better than free) by buying (for a profit) a few OTC medicines that I don’t need. Then I give away or donate the things that I don’t need.

Love it!!! People often wonder what in the world I’m going to do with the stuff I get. I always donate it or give it to a friend or family member who can use it, so I’m not throwing it away. But why not buy the odd ball things to save a bunch on the things we would already be buying!? I’m glad I’m not alone!

Absolutely! Our church does a lot of community support activities, and has a school, not to mention my extended family that loves getting my goodies. And I love being able to give people useful stuff that didn’t cost me a thing.

I think that sharing my great finds with others is one of my favorite reasons for being a bargain shopper!

I haven’t seen anything on this catalina. Is this regional? I am in SC. Thanks!

I hadn’t seen it advertised in stores either. I saw it on several blog sites, ones that aren’t from this area. I figured I would give it a try. If it didn’t work, I could always return the crayons at customer service after checking out. I’m 99% sure it’s national, so it’s worth a try.
