And Then Mommy Taught Her to Jump Off the Swings

July 26, 2013

Take-a-Chance

Have you ever noticed that our best and worst qualities are reflected – and MAGNIFIED –  in our kids?

I’m not a risk-taker. Not at all. I like the tried-and-true, the stable, the quiet.

Emma is just like me. She tests the waters. She observes. She doesn’t just dive right in. She follows the rules.

I think that’s why I surprised her the other night at the playground. I was swinging beside her (which she found amusing) and then jumped off the swing while it was still going. You’re not supposed to do that, you know. 😉

And then I taught her how to jump off too.

She wasn’t going high. She wasn’t going fast. It was good for her to try it. To take the risk. To feel the little victory of conquering something that looked a bit scary. Maybe it was only jumping off a swing for now, but it’s one little step.

And maybe Mommy needs to remember to jump more often too.
