CVS Trip – Combining Deals from Two Weeks = BIG Savings!

October 10, 2009

I stopped at CVS tonight specifically to snag a combination of deals from the current week (ending 10/10) and next week (10/11-10/17). Saturday night shopping allows you to take advantage of sales from both weeks. Note: The only exception is if you want the 3-Day Sale items. You can get the pricing, but you can’t get the ECBs until the actual week of the sale.

I did two transactions and got all of this for $.76 plus tax out-of-pocket. I made good use of a raincheck and some free product coupons, which I’ll explain after I break down how I did the deals. Also note that my CVS store allows me to use the coupons I get from CVS via email more than once. I used two copies of the $4 off $20 coupon that came this week, one for each transaction. I don’t know if that happens everywhere or not, so check with your store manager before you try it.

Merchandise Value: $41.70
Extra Care Bucks Used: $10.00
Extra Care Bucks Earned: $6.00
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $.76 plus tax
Savings: $40.94 (98%)

Beginning to restock my medicine cabinet BEFORE we’re sick….
PRICELESS!

I did this in two transactions. Here’s how they worked.

Transaction #1
What I Bought:
4 Brach’s Candy Corn/Pumpkins – $.44 each ($1.76)
2 Kashi TLC Granola Bars – $3.00 each ($6.00)
2 Febreze Noticeables Starter Kits – $6.50 each ($13.00)
The Noticeables were purchased using a raincheck I’d been carrying around for quite a while.

Coupons Used:
-$4.00 off a $20.00 purchase I received via email from CVS
-$1.00 off x 2 Kashi TLC coupons found in the produce section of Kroger
-$4.00 off x 2 Febreze coupons from 9/27 P&G insert
-$6.00 ECBs

Out-of-Pocket: $.76 plus tax
ECBs Earned: $5.00 (Febreze – from raincheck deal)

Transaction #2
What I Bought:
2 Tums – $3.99 each ($7.98)
1 NyQuil – $4.49
1 20 oz. Coke Zero – $1.59
1 CVS Brand Mouthwash – $2.29
1 Dial Antioxidant Body Wash – $3.99

Coupons Used:
-$4.00 off $20.00 purchase I received via email from CVS
-$1.00 off 2 Tums coupon from 8/30 Red Plum insert
-$2.00 off Tums CVS coupon from CVS flu shot booklet
-$2.00 off Tums CVS coupon from the bottom of previous receipt
-$1.00 off NyQuil coupon from 9/27 P&G insert
-$.50 off NyQuil CVS coupon from CVS flu shot booklet
-$1.59 off Coke Zero coupon from My Coke Rewards
-$2.29 off mouthwash CVS coupon from the bottom of previous receipt
-$1.00 off Dial printable coupon HERE
-$1.00 off Dial CVS coupon from CVS flu shot booklet
-$4.00 ECBs

Out-of-Pocket: $.00 plus tax
ECBs Earned: $1.00 (Dial bodywash)

First, for those of you who are new to CVS shopping, CVS allows you to use one manufacturer’s coupon and one CVS store coupon per item.

I did spend more ECBs than I earned, but I got some things that we need and some things to include in Christmas gifts (Febreze, body wash). Notice that my totals would not have reached the $20 mark without the raincheck (Transaction #1) or the free product coupons (Transaction #2). Without $20 in merchandise I wouldn’t have been able to use the $4 off coupons. You can read more about making the most of free product coupons in my post HERE.

I highly recommend stocking up on cold and flu products over the next few weeks while they’re on sale. You can read about how I had to pay full price for my daughter’s medicine this week HERE. I was not a happy shopper! But I did learn my lesson. The NyQuil in this purchase is for my husband. (I can’t stomach the stuff!) He’s not sick right now, but I’m guessing that he might be at some time this winter. Now I’m prepared, I didn’t pay full price, and we won’t be making a special trip (15 miles away) if he needs NyQuil.

You can see all of this week’s best CVS deals HERE. Let me know if you find anything else that’s a great deal!
