CVS Trip – Saved 100%

February 28, 2010

I had 3 $10 CVS gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. I had picked up new prescriptions earlier this week and redeemed 2 of the prescription transfer coupons from the Target ad a few weeks ago. The other gift card came from redeeming the points we earn by using our bank’s debit card. I figured I could turn their $10 gift card reward into SO much more!

Here’s what I ended up with. (Click the image to enlarge.)

Starting ECBs: $6.00
Merchandise Value: $57.52
Out-of-Pocket Cost: $22.03 (paid with gift cards)
Ending ECBs: $23.00

This isn’t my typical trip to CVS. Usually you see out-of-pocket costs of $.37 or $1.29 on my posts. But there were some great higher-priced items that were generating ECBs this week. I wanted to use my free CVS money (gift cards) to buy them so that I could then have the ECBs that they were generating. Technically, my out-of-pocket was ZERO for this week (not even tax!). Yay!!!

What I Bought:
6 boxes Valentine candy hearts – $.13 each
It was getting close to lunch, so 3 boxes are now empty!
2 Revlon eye shadow quads – $6.99 each
2 ThermaCare heat wraps – $6.29 each
1 12-pack Diet Mt. Dew – $3.34
1 Cheez-Its – $1.88
2 Dove Men + Care body wash – $5.49 each
1 Softsoap body wash – $4.99
1 Cheerios cup – $1.00
2 Colgate Total toothpastes – $2.50 each
1 BLUE nail polish – $2.99
(Blue nail polish for a sweet little girl who
REALLY wants blue nails = priceless)

Coupons I Used:
-$5.00 off $30.00 purchase CVS coupon received via email
-$2.00 off x 2 Revlon coupons from 2/21 SmartSource insert

-$1.00 off Colgate Total coupon from February All You Magazine
-$.50 off Sally Hansen nail polish coupon from 1/10 RedPlum insert
-$6.00 ECBs from last week

Extra Care Bucks Earned:
$12.00 Dove Men + Care (rain check)
$5.00 ThermaCare
$2.00 Colgate Total
$4.00 Softsoap

Merchandise Value: $57.52
Coupons & Buy 1 – Get 1 Savings: $35.49
Total Paid from Gift Card: $22.03
ECBs Earned: $23.00

My goal with these gift cards is to finish using them by buying items that generate ECBs. That way I can keep rolling them into new products that also produce ECBs. I can keep this up, meaning that I shouldn’t be paying for much of anything at CVS for a while!
