It’s an annual tradition at our house. During the week before Christmas we always host a Happy Birthday Jesus party. This year Emma wanted to set the table, making sure that each guest (us and my parents) got a birthday napkin, cupcake, and party hat. Yes, we all wear party hats.
We each light a candle on our cupcake. We sing Happy Birthday. We each blow out our candle. Emma says that since Jesus is in our hearts, He’s blowing out His birthday candles. I tend to agree.
It’s a short party… No games or presents. But it helps us stop for a moment to remember why we celebrate. We celebrate the gift of a baby…. the gift of salvation, freely given.
Happy Birthday, Jesus!
