Homemade Foaming Hand Soap

September 1, 2017

Healthy Foaming Hand Soap

Around here, I’m known for being a hand washing drill sergeant. The moment we walk in the door from ANYWHERE, the first words out of my mouth have something to do with washing your hands. {Those words may be met with eye rolling from my family…}

Hand washing is a quick & easy thing to do to support our wellness. But I want to make sure that we’re not washing our hands with anything that will do more harm than good. Antibacterial soap may sound like a good idea, but not when it washes away the good bacteria along with the bad. Most grocery store or Bath & Body Works soaps contain artificial fragrances that aren’t good for you at all. Let’s not defeat the purpose of hand washing… staying healthy!

My solution? I’ve been mixing up my own healthy foaming hand soap. It’s SO easy!

Foaming Hand Soap

What you need:

  • 8oz foaming pump bottle – You can buy some here or recycle one like I did!
  • 1 1/2 Tablespoons Dr. Bronners Castille Soap – I like the baby kind.
  • a squirt of Vitamin E oil – to keep hands soft
  • 8 drops (or more) Thieves essential oil
  • 5 drops (or more) Lemon essential oil
  1. Mix everything in your 8oz foaming pump bottle.
  2. Add distilled water, leaving enough room for the foaming top to fit without spilling.
  3. Shake well & enjoy!

You can make this with different essential oils like Lavender or Purification for different scents and purposes. Have fun experimenting!

Don’t have Young Living essential oils yet? Let’s change that, my friend! 😉 Drop me a message here with your questions, and we’ll make sure you have all the info you need to get started!

Is this soap effective for use in the kitchen? For washing following using raw meat?

I personally do, but I can’t say that it officially kills germs like that. 😉 This is from the Young Living website:

“In France during the 15th century, thieves would sneak into graveyards to rob from the dead and dying. Legend says they protected themselves by creating a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals. Today, Thieves essential oil blend is inspired by those tales of old. Combining Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Lemon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils, this blend is one of our most popular products. Use it with household cleaning products or diffuse it to freshen up a room.

Thieves essential oil blend joined the Young Living family in 1994.”

Thieves is also the basis for a whole line of cleaning products.

Hey! I tried this recipe but my foaming soap pump is hard to push and then becomes clogged. Does this ever happen to you? What can I do to stop this?

Try thinning it out by adding a splash of water!

Are there any subs for vitamin e oil? Can I use jojoba?

Absolutely! I have a friend who uses Young Living’s V-6 oil in hers!

I would recommend using distilled water in case your tap water has minerals that are building up inside the pump.

Did you put it in a foaming soap pump bottle? I had a friend try it in a regular bottle, and that didn’t work very well. 🙂
