Kroger Trip: Stayed Under $40

January 24, 2010

Emma and I headed to Kroger yesterday, armed with a list and a determination to spend under $50. Since this week marks the last of our Eat from the Pantry Challenge weeks, we were mostly restocking necessities, fresh produce, and dairy. I also needed a few frozen veggies, as we’ve done a fabulous job of clearing out some of what was in our freezer. (I’m seriously going to need to take some after-the-after pictures so that I can prove that we really did use up much of what was in there!) Here’s what we got at Kroger. (Click the image to enlarge.)

Spent: $38.55 plus tax
Saved: $28.35 (42%)

Notice that there were even trash bags in the picture… a big $7 box of them! We really needed them, and I found a $.55 off peelie coupon on the box. I didn’t really want to make an extra stop, so we threw them in our cart at Kroger.

The natural oatmeal bread and mushrooms were both manager’s specials, so that saved us a bit more. I also ended up getting the 24 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese. The 8 oz. bags were $2.39, and the 24 oz. was only $4.99. We go through a lot of mozzarella. Of course, Emma was most excited about the Oreos! Who wouldn’t be?

With this trip, we’ve spent $142.90 for the month of January. I’m truly amazed! We used to spend that much in one trip to the grocery store before I learned more about frugal shopping. And the best part is that our cupboards are far from bare. I’ve been restocking them with some of the deals I’ve been finding.

How about you? Have you been participating in the Pantry Challenge? Did you score any good grocery deals this week? We’d love to share your successes and cheer you on!
