My Saturday Night CVS Trip = Moneymaker!

August 22, 2009

I thought I’d try my hand at Saturday night CVSing. I’ve heard that you can get both the current week’s deals and the next week’s deals all at the same time! I was only interested in next week’s deals, and I got them!

Starting ECBs: $11.00
Merchandise Value: $41.16
Out-of-Pocket: $1.16 plus tax
Savings: $40.00 (97%)
Ending ECBs: $20.16

I did two transactions and a return. I didn’t know that the 3-Day Sale items would only generate ECBs on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The cashier was kind enough to return those items for me. I’ll detail that below.

Transaction #1

What I Bought:
4 Carefree Ultra Protection Pantiliners – $15.16 ($3.79 each)
4 Poise Liners – $8.00 ($2.00 each)
2 Composition Notebooks – $1.98 ($.99 each)
Merchandise Total: $25.14

Coupons Used:
– $5.00 off any $25 purchase from watching the Ready Fill video (information HERE)
– $1.00 off x 4 Carefree coupons from home mailers and previous printing opportunities
– $2.00 off x 4 Poise printable coupons HERE
– $7.00 ECBs from last week

Out-of-Pocket: $1.14 plus tax
ECBs Earned: $17.16 ($15.16 Carefree, $2 Poise)

This is where I learned about the 3-Day sale items not generating ECBs on Saturday night. The cashier kindly returned the notebooks for me. I got $1.98 back.

Transaction #2

What I Bought:
3 ThermaCare heat wraps – $6.00 each
*The ad shows these at $6.99, but I didn’t see that until later.
Merchandise Total: $18.00

Coupons Used:
– $4 off any $20 purchase coupon from Ready Fill booklet
You can request one of these at the pharmacy.
– $3.00 off x 2 printable coupons HERE (I used 2 computers.)
– $4.00 ECBs from last week
– $2.00 ECBs from transaction #1

Out-of-Pocket: $2.00 plus tax
ECBs Earned: $5.00 (Thermacare)

Summary
I started with $11.00 in ECBs and used all of those.
After my return, I paid $1.16 out-of-pocket.
I ended up with $20.16 in ECBs.
I saved $40 (97%). Plus I have $9.16 more in ECBs than I started with!

Ironically, a church friend of mine just told me last week that she gives her Poise coupons to a lady from our church. I’m going to have her give the lady the Poise liners I got today, or I’m going to donate them to the women’s shelter. These were a HUGE moneymaker for me. You’ll notice in Transaction #1 that I used $7 ECBs, spent $1.14, and got back $17.16 in ECBs. I don’t mind buying items that I won’t use if they’re going to make me this much ECB profit. I only do this if I have a plan for the items, but I like to find deals like this!
