This site is all about saving you money, but sometimes there are other things that need to be saved. Around here those things tend to be time and our nerves. Emma was starting to ask the same question each night….. “What’s tomorrow?”
She’s a planner just like her mama.
Because I understand her need to know what’s going on the next day (who doesn’t?), I decided to take action. My goals were to help her feel more in control and help us feel less frazzled from having to answer that question…. multiple times… each evening.
I simply printed out a calendar using Microsoft Publisher and added the clip art of Emma’s choice. I typed in a few things that we knew we would be doing and left the rest blank. Each weekend we sit down and add in the activities we know for the next week. She gets a sense of what’s coming and can ask questions about the activities.
Did I mention she’s a planner like me?
We hang the calendar on the fridge so that Emma can check it whenever she wants. She’s learning to be flexible when things change from what the calendar says. I think that’s a good life skill! We all know how our calendars can change with little notice. She’s also building more calendar skills (numbers, days of the week, months, etc.).
And we don’t have to keep answering the same question…. What’s tomorrow?

Love this idea. Might have to incorporate it for next summer for my kiddos. Especially since DS will be old enough to fill in the blanks himself. Thanks Jen.

It would be even better if she could fill them in! 🙂

What a great idea! Now I know the idea of this post is to encourage organization, but I couldn’t help but read the entries on your calendar. Emma is soooo blessed to have days and/or evenings dedicated to spending time with Mom, Dad, and the grandparents. I’m also glad to see “library” as part of your activities, because I believe reading is so important (and I work at a library). I’m sure that Emma is a very well-adjusted little girl, and with her organization skills (and great parents), I’m sure she’ll do great things!

She likes to know which days are Mommy’s work days, so we call those “Daddy Days.” When Jason goes to his Bible study group, it’s “Girls’ Nite” at our house. So we jot those down too. She loves knowing whose day it is! And we wouldn’t miss our library programs for anything!

Thanks for the invitation, Leanne! I enjoyed it! If I ever get around to organizing anything else, I’ll be sure to stop back. 🙂
