Money-Saving Terms: Stacking

April 10, 2009

If you’ve been reading up on couponing, you’ve probably read the rule that you can only use one coupon per item. This is completely true if you’re talking about manufacturers’ coupons. However, some stores offer their own store coupons. Target, CVS, and Kroger are three that come to mind. (I believe Walgreen’s does too. I don’t have a Walgreen’s where I live, so I don’t have much experience with them.) Store coupons are store-specific. You can’t use one from CVS at Kroger.

The beauty of store coupons is that you can combine them with your manufacturer’s coupons. This is called stacking. And it’s totally legal! Here’s a current Target deal using stacked coupons:

Target has Hershey’s Bliss candy for $2.99 this week.
Use a $1 off manufacturer’s printable coupon HERE.
Use a $1 off Target store coupon HERE.
Final Price: 99 cents

I did this at Kroger last week. I had two $1.50 off Kraft dressing coupons, and I didn’t feel like going to Wal-Mart just for dressing. So I did this deal at Kroger:

Bought 2 Kraft salad dressings for $2.09 each
Used 2 $1.50 off coupons from newspaper inserts
Used 1 $1.00 off 2 catalina from previous Kroger purchase
Final Price: 18 cents for both

If you’re not sure if your store will stack coupons, just ask. If you’re interested in more Target printable coupons, check A Full Cup’s website (HERE) regularly. They update them as Target releases them. The nice thing about printing from A Full Cup instead of the Target site is that you can print multiple coupons on the same sheet of paper.
