Is it really Day 10 of the 30-Day Giving Challenge already? That means we’re 1/3 of the way through the challenge. I hope that you’ve had your socks blessed off by giving! Our family is focused on Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes this week. I’ll be sharing more about that later in the week.
Don’t you just love unexpected opportunities to teach your kids about giving? We stopped at Toys ‘R Us to pick up a birthday gift for my niece, and there was a Marine collecting for Toys for Tots in front of the store. My conversation with Emma went something like this….
Emma: Mommy, why’s there a policeman standing there?
Me: Well, that’s not a policeman. That’s a Marine. He’s collecting toys.
Emma: (puzzled look)
Me: He’s collecting toys for kids who don’t have many toys.
Emma: Oh.
I could see the wheels turning. I’m sure she can’t imagine not having many toys. This was the perfect opportunity to expand her world. We talked about it a bit more and then bought a toy to leave in the collection bin. I don’t know if she totally understood it or not. In fact, I’m guessing we’ll need to go through the same discussion and donation process a few times this Christmas season before it really takes hold. But I’m thankful for the opportunity to teach giving.
Day 10 Giveaway: A Very Veggie Gift Pack
We’ve had another company partner with our 30-Day Giving Challenge team for another giveaway. Remember, the 30-Day Giving Challenge team isn’t keeping any of the donated items. We’re each finding homes for our items by way of donating them to local charities. It’s been a huge blessing to see companies come forward to help us make these donations.
Veggie Tales is one of our all-time favorite companies. Emma is a HUGE fan, and we love the messages of the Veggie Tales videos. If there’s a young girl in your life, I highly recommend watching the Sweetpea Beauty video together. It will open up some amazing doors for discussion about her value in the eyes of God.
Veggie Tales has sent us a box full of videos and a CD! One winner will receive a prize pack identical to this one. It includes:
Pistachio: The Little Boy That Woodn’t
Saint Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving
Heroes of the Bible! (Moses, Miriam, and Joseph)
Sweetpea Beauty: A Girl After God’s Own Heart
It’s a Meaningful Life
Silly Little Thing Called Love
Bob & Larry Sing the 80s (CD)

This time of year many charities are “giving” us opportunities for giving. All 3 of my children’s schools are collecting canned food items for needy families in our community.

Every year for Christmas we do several things to teach our kids the spirit of giving 1- we donate the kids coats that are too small to the coat drive 2- we help serve food at the senior center Christmas dinner 3- we donate chew toys for each dog and cat toys for each cat at the animal shelter 🙂 4- we donate 6 cases of baby food to the local food pantry (its something no one ever donates I wish everyone would think about the hungry babys more!)

My kids and I love Veggietales! Would love to donate this to our local library!
I love Veggie Tales – the subtle humor that only the adults catch, the lovable characters, the good, honest Bible lessons, the values, the consistency – they never have compromised, even after gaining so much popularity! God bless the creators, animators, and voice actors as they create new work for my family to love and learn from!

Our daughters love veggietales, and being able to share veggietales w/other children would be a wonderful lesson in giving. Everything belongs to God, and we are to share w/o being anxious of going without.
I ‘liked’ veggietales on FB too! Thank You.
Our family loves Veggie tales. I love the idea of giving time. Last year through a club at my oldest daughter’s school we volunteered and fed the homeless and less fortunate it gave my girls a great appreciation for what they have.

A good tip I heard yesterday is to pack a couple of lunch bags with peanut butter, crackers and a plastic knife, maybe a soda or some juice boxes. Keep these in your car and when you see panhandlers or homeless people with their signs, give them the bag!
I subscribe by email. Hope your holiday planning is going well!
I like to make baked goods to give to people. It always seems to cheer someone up!

Staples often has great deals on copy paper – like $1 a ream. I buy them and give them to my daughter’s school. They can always use paper. The secretary is always so thankful. 🙂

I teach giving to my boys on a daily basis; we are constantly donating our old clothes and toys to our local thrift store and a pregnancy center. We are currently running a food drive thru our local sports organization and annually we help my brother Knights of Columbus pack and deliver baskets of food to local families in need.
Grateful email subscriber!

Thanks for the giving! They would be passed on to a Children’s Home in Haiti. The kiddoes there haven’t been introduced to Veggie Tales yet and I know they would love them!
My recommendation for giving, today, is to send some cards to share a card, to be sent on to seriously ill people, to help brighten their day while they are homebound.
