Do you ever crave Chinese food but don’t feel like going out to eat? Do you ever want the convenience of a prepacked meal but hesitate when you read the label? We used to eat a lot of prepacked meals, but that was before we started trying to lower my husband’s cholesterol levels through diet. Many of those meals have a lot of saturated fat in them, so we have to avoid them.
When I got the invitation from MyBlogSpark to try Wanchai Ferry’s newest meal flavor, Beef & Broccoli, I was a little bit hesitant. But I figured it was worth a try.
The package alone was fun to receive! It came packed in dry ice, because the Beef & Broccoli flavor isn’t yet available in stores. My husband wanted to add water and make smoke like they used to do at our high school dances. I talked him out of it.
I was going to save the meal and use it as part of next week’s meal plan, but I had one of those mama-doesn’t-want-to-cook nights. When I saw the Wanchai Ferry meal in the freezer, I knew I wouldn’t have to cook much to get dinner ready. Sure enough, dinner was ready in less than 15 minutes!
As I was preparing dinner, I had a minute to read the label on the package. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it didn’t have much saturated fat in it, and the ingredients list looked good too. (It’s a good sign when you can pronounce the words in the ingredients list!)
The meal earned two thumbs up from me, my husband, and my daughter. The meal was flavorful, the rice was fluffy, and we were satisfied. I did end up adding a little extra broccoli and some chicken to the mix, because the meal was intended to serve two people. With my simple additions, it was plenty for the three of us.
