CVS Trip: What do you do when the cashier is too nice? {Saved 59%}

July 15, 2011

I stopped at CVS yesterday and got all that. I had planned to use my free chocolate bar coupon from last week’s top at the magic coupon machine, but they were out of the free kind {again}. That threw off my total. When the cashier rang it up, I was a few cents shy of $25 before tax. I needed to hit $25 so I could use my $5 off $25 coupon. Before I could grab anything else to fill in the gap, the cashier went ahead and pushed the coupon through anyways. {gulp} I didn’t know what to do. I was kind of surprised and just finished my transactions and left. Not sure how I should’ve handled that.

So here’s how my transactions went.

Transaction #1:
2 Just the Basics Paper Towels (single rolls) – $1.00 each
8-pack Sparkle Paper Towels – $4.97
2 Garnier Nutrisse Hair Colors – $7.00 each
1 Garnier Conditioner – $3.34

Coupons:
-$1/1 Garnier Fructis Shampoo or Conditioner 6/5/2011 RP Insert (exp 9/5/2011)
-$2/1 Garnier Nutrisse Shade or Multi-Light kit 5/1/2011 RP Insert (exp 8/1/2011)
-$1/2 Just the Basics CVS store coupon from previous receipt
-$5/25 purchase CVS coupon received via email

Out-of-Pocket Cost: $13.31
ECBs Earned: $6.00 ($5 – Garnier, $1 – Green Bag 4th scan)
Net Cost: $8.31

Transaction #2:
Claritin Reditabs – $11.29

Coupons:
-$4/1 coupon from previous Claritin package
-$6 ECBs from Transaction #1

Out-of-Pocket Cost: $1.29

Total Merchandise Value: $35.60
Total Out-of-Pocket: $14.60
Savings: $21.00 (59%)

Overall, it was a slow week at CVS, and my store didn’t have some of the things that I went for. But I ended up paying less for everything in the picture for a little more than I would’ve paid for just the Claritin at regular price. So I call that a success.

You still had a good purchase for a slow week!

It really was a slow week, wasn’t it? I only needed the Claritin, but I had that $5/25 coupon burning a hole in my pocket. 😉
