I stopped at JCPenney last week in hopes of finding Emma some black dress shoes that she desperately needs. I saw the coupons in the front of the store. The smallest one was $10 off any $50 purchase. I certainly wasn’t going to spend $50 on shoes for Emma, so I skipped even picking one up.
I swung back through the shoe department at JCPenney, bought the shoes, and headed back through the store to leave. On the way out, I happened to see the perfect little sweater to go with Emma’s Christmas dress. I had been searching high and low for one and hadn’t found anything I love. Plus this one was on sale for $11.99. I grabbed it and headed for the checkout.
And then I saw a shirt that would be a perfect gift for a friend of ours.
And then I saw these adorable Pillow Pet backpack clips.
And then I realized that I should’ve waited to buy the shoes.
Had I waited to buy the shoes, I would’ve spent $50 and been able to use that $10 coupon. *sigh* As I stood in line (kicking myself for losing $10), I wondered if I could return the shoes at the checkout and then immediately re-buy them. I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask. So I did.
The cashier was great about the whole thing. She didn’t even make me return the shoes. She simply verified how much I’d spent on them, rung up the rest of my order, and took off the $10.
Wow!
I was honestly surprised, and VERY glad I asked. The moral of the story? If in doubt…. just ask.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!
I have been looking everywhere trying to remember where I saw those tiny little pillow pets the day my daughter and I were out shopping. She loves her pillow pets and I know she’ll love the little ladybug backpack clip. Unfortunately I couldn’t find them anywhere. I had even looked online, but couldn’t find them because they’re backpack clips and I wasn’t putting that in the search.
Glad you got to use the coupon. I’ve found JCP to be very good about doing things like that with their coupons.
Merry Christmas!
Oh how funny! I had never seen them before, but they’re SO cute! Glad to help. 🙂
That is good advice. It never hurts to ask right? I am a new Twitter and FB follower visiting from We are THAT Family. Vicky from Mess For Less
So true! I’m learning that the worst they can say is no. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by.
I have noticed that this year, the cashiers have been just – cool. About that kind of stuff, or like if something was in the wrong bin and I thought it was $1.00 less, they just take it off. You’re right – it never hurts to ask!
I’ve noticed that trend too. I hope it continues!
