Well the winds of change have surely been blowing around here! I just realized how long it had been since my last little family update. We’ve had some major changes since you and I chatted last. So grab a cup of coffee, put up your feet, and let’s catch up!
First of all – and kind of a big deal around here – I quit my day job at the end of June. Jason & I have been growing our design business, New Season Design, and it got to the point where we couldn’t grow any more while I was working three days a week. Plus my heart has always been set on being home. God has blessed me with some amazing mentors over the past year. I love it when He allows our paths to collide with people we never would have met on our own. Joy from Five J’s Design has been mentoring me in all things design. Shannon from For The Mommas has done a little blog coaching. Kelly from Kansas City Mamas asked me to team up with her to create media kits for bloggers. The list goes on and on. I’m blown away by the way that all the pieces fit together in ways I never would have imagined.
My baby’s in first grade. {sniff} She’s growing up so quickly. With Jason & I both working from home, we have the perfect setup to homeschool Emma. I’m beyond thrilled about this! We started homeschooling part way through last year, and we all loved it. We started our school year yesterday with our First Day of First Grade fun day. Emma was ready to roll bright and early.
My word she looks so grown up! The jeans that were a little long last Spring fit perfectly now. We decided to start the day with breakfast out… her choice of restaurant. She picked Denny’s because she’s never had breakfast there. Check out this spread….
And yes, she ate every bite of it… plus some fruit! Hey, a girl needs her energy to tackle 1st grade.
After breakfast we headed to Staples to buy a new chair just for her. She was so excited to find a pink one! We picked up a new HUGE box of crayons, some funky notebooks, and other odds and ends. I think she was most excited by the little pencil sharpener guy and her pencil pouch… and I can see why. They’ll be fun additions to our school room this year.
We spent some time putting the finishing touches on our homeschool space in the family room downstairs. I think we really felt comfortable there by the time we were done. It’s going to be a great school year!
We’re still unpacking boxes and trying to get settled in this new house. I have a feeling that’s going to take a while. But a box at time and it will get done, right?
Thanks for sharing this journey with us. I love your emails and updates… and just love that you spend a little time with us here each day. Here’s to a great 2011-12 school year!
