Emma and a group of my friends’ kiddos have just joined forces to become pen pals. None of us live close to each other, so it will be fun for the kids to get to know each other through writing letters. Plus **don’t tell them!** it’s great handwriting and spelling practice. 😉
We’ll be enjoying swapping letters with the other kids, but we’ll also incorporate these letters into our homeschooling activities. Here’s how:
- Map the locations of all the new friends.
- Use Google Earth to check out the terrain where each friend lives. Talk about how it’s the same as/different from where we live.
- Mapquest the number of miles to each friend’s house. Create a graph of those miles.
I’m sure we’ll come up with other ways to work a few educational activities into the mix. For right now, it’s fun to anticipate the coming letters.
If you’re interested in having your kids participate in a pen pal activity, you can print this introductory letter form. It’s a free printable that we created for Life…Your Way. Then find a friend who lives far away and see if their little ones want to swap letters.
