If you followed our series An Organized Christmas, you know that I had some great plans for this holiday season. And we’ve carried out many of them. However, today was an example of how life just happens… even at Christmastime.
My plan was to make some snack mix gifts for the guys on the worship team that we’re part of. My mom had given me some cute little candy cane cellophane bags to pack the gifts in. I was ready!
Then life happened.
We (who truly limit our activities) had all three of Emma’s activities’ programs/recitals on the same weekend, had in-laws visiting from Friday to Tuesday, and then Emma and Jason both got sick.
Not only was time an issue, but I didn’t want to make a food gift while we had all these germs in our house. So instead of the beautiful bags of special snack mix, I ended up with cute cellophane bags of store-bought chocolates.
And you know what?
Everyone appreciated them. And – most importantly – each person knew that we appreciated them! That’s truly what our gift-giving goal was in the first place. So, while it may not have been just the way that I wanted it, I decided to extend some grace to myself and just enjoy the simple act of giving. (And of course I’ll be making a big batch of that snack mix for us to share with all of them as soon as we’re all well!)

I, too, frequently have to “adjust accordingly”. That’s what we call it when “life happens”…. Glad to know we are not the only one to have to do this! Thanks for your blog – I check it daily and love it!

I love that… “adjust accordingly”. We’ve been doing a lot of that lately! Thanks for stopping by and for letting me know it’s not just me. 😉
