Operation Christmas Child: It’s Fill a Shoebox Week!

November 11, 2010

I love this week. This is the week where we fill shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child is a project sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse. If you’re not familiar with this group, they take shoeboxes full off goodies to needy kids around the world. You can learn more about it on the Operation Christmas Child website.

These kids need everything from soap to toys to pencils. Did you know that many of the kids served by this organization can’t attend school if they don’t have a pencil? And some of them don’t attend because pencils are too expensive!!

My plan is to use some of the freebies I’ve picked up throughout the year — toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair accessories, school supplies — and add in some candy and toys.

Will you join me? Will you fill a shoebox? You can use the drop-off location finder to find your local collection center. National Collection Week is November 15-22.  If we each fill even one shoebox, that’s a lot of love headed out to some kids who need it!
