This girl.
She’s big enough to be independent and want her space, sometimes preferring hanging out in her room listening to music to hanging out with us. She’s big enough to understand a good play on words or get the punchline of a joke that puzzles the younger kids. She’s big enough to follow her heart, so full of compassion and caring for others, to befriend the new girl or hug someone who’s hurting.
Yet she’s still small enough to curl up on her mama’s lap when life feels overwhelming and she needs a gentle reminder that it’s really going to be okay. She’s still small enough to be confused when people don’t act the way she thinks they should. She’s still small enough to be intimidated by the world.
As her mom, I’m learning that this is a season of letting go and holding tight…. all at the same time. It’s my job to shield her from the world while introducing her to the beauty that’s in it.
She’s my girl. She’s my heart.
She is incredible.

Sometimes I ask myself that same question, Peggy. 🙂
