Works for Me Wednesday: Save Money by Organizing Taxes

January 12, 2010

It’s that time of year…. TAX Time! I used to spend a lot of time scrounging through piles of paper (which are almost a permanent fixture on my desk lately) to find our tax documents. We would receive multiple W-2s, interest statements, and other important documents, and they would end up scattered here, there, and everywhere. It cost me time to find them all. And it cost us money, as there have been a couple of times when I’ve had to file amended forms due to my disorganization!

I knew there had to be a better way.

I have recently added a file folder labeled Taxes to the basket that sits on my desk. It’s always there. Whenever we receive anything tax-related, it immediately goes into the folder. I don’t worry about organizing what’s in the folder. As long as it’s all there, I can deal with it once a year when it’s time to complete our tax forms.

This has been a huge time-saver and money-saver for us. Because, when it comes to taxes, it really does pay to be organized!
