We started the Listerine Oral Care Challenge three weeks ago. For the challenge, we agreed to:
- Brushing twice a day, with Emma adding in a third brushing in the afternoons. Her dentist recommended this third brushing for her.
- Flossing twice a day.
- Rinsing twice a day with Listerine Smart Rinse (for Emma) and Ultraclean (for the grown-ups).
So how did we do? I would say results may vary. 🙂
We’ve been faithfully brushing twice a day. Emma has been pretty good with getting her third brushing done. That’s definitely a new habit for her, and we’re ALL having some trouble remembering.
We’ve done so-so on the flossing. We’ve learned that we all prefer using a flosser over traditional floss. It’s easier and we don’t end up with our finger circulation cut off. Emma’s usually completely grossed out by what the floss captures after brushing. This has been a great experience for her to see how important flossing is. My husband (our resident anti-flossing holdout) has really liked using a flosser better than traditional floss. So he’s been flossing way more than he used to. I’ve been about 50/50 on the flossing. I’ve found that flossing before bedtime makes it easier for me to remember. And I’m loving using a flosser!
We’ve been horrible with the rinsing. I actually liked the flavor of the kids’ rinse better than the grown-up one. Emma didn’t like the idea of holding liquid in her mouth for that long. So we may have to opt for a shorter swish time for her and gradually build.
Emma LOVED the fun goodies. I was surprised by her reaction to the Barbie toothbrush and rinse. She thought they were awesome! I think we’ll be buying more fun toothbrushing supplies in the future. Hey… whatever it takes, right?
I’m really glad we took part in this challenge. We’ll continue to brush twice and day, floss WAY more often than we used to (hopefully at least once a day!), and figure out his rinse thing. We’ll also keep buying fun toothbrushes.
If you want to fight back against the candy-saturated activities this time of year, it might be worthwhile to stock them up with some fun oral care products too. I think it’s worth it to combat the sugar! You can learn more about kids and tooth care by heading over to the America’s ToothFairy Kids Club website and signing up for their newsletters.
