We’re big fans of the sweet potato (yam) at our house. We usually just cook them in the skin and eat them like a baked potato. We bake them into side dish casseroles. We’ve even tried grilling them in little foil packets. We haven’t met a sweet potato that we haven’t liked. So I was excited when Collective Bias asked us to try the Ore-Idea Sweet Potato Fries by Heinz. I went shopping for the fries at Sam’s Club with Emma and my mom. I whipped up three different dipping sauces, and we invited my parents over for a little dinner and dipping.

I decided to make three different dips so that everyone could find something that they liked. I wanted something sweet, something spicy, and something in between. I tend to measure like my grandma… a pinch of this, a dash of that. But I actually broke out the measuring cups and spoons – just for you! Here are the three dips that we tried along with the overall family reaction for each one.
Spicy Ranch Dipping Sauce
1 cup Ranch dressing
1 tsp. chili powder
Stir until combined and chill for 30 minutes.
Reaction: This one had just a little kick to it. I didn’t think it did right after I mixed it, but the spiciness increased as it sat in the fridge. We liked it, but maybe not for dipping the Ore-Ida Sweet Potato Fries by Heinz. In fact, we tried it with pretzels and liked it even better for that kind of dipping. But if you prefer something a little kicky for your fries, this might be just the sauce.
Sweet BBQ Dipping Sauce
1 cup regular BBQ sauce
2 T. brown sugar
2 T. honey
Stir until combined and chill for 30 minutes.
Reaction: This was the favorite hands-down. My goal was to make something similar to the Bob Evans sweet potato fry dipping sauce, and I think I came pretty close. Everyone agreed that it was a perfect accent for the fries.
Cinnamon Honey Butter
1 stick of butter (softened)
2 T. honey
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Whip the butter until it’s fluffy. Add the honey and cinnamon and whip again until combined. Do not refrigerate before serving.
Reaction: While this had a great taste to it, it wasn’t ideal for dipping our fries. It was a little too thick. My mom suggested using a spreadable butter instead. That may have made it soft enough to dip with. We’ll probably end up using this mixture on pancakes or toast instead of on our leftover fries.
Overall we loved the Ore-Idea Sweet Potato Fries by Heinz. they had a sweet flavor and browned up nicely in the oven. Emma devoured them, so I think I can safely say they’re a kid-friendly side dish. The bag of fries from Sam’s Club was more than enough for the five of us. Plus there were a few servings left in the bag for another time.
